A Progressive Newsletter for a Progressive Future

My History and Education
My name is Conor Kelly. I am a political scientist, a writer, and an activist. I am also the proud founder of The Progressive American. a program dedicated to informed discourse and commentary.
As a history and politics student, I have worked on multiple projects that inform my work. I have written several theses about the growth of political institutions and movements. My thesis, Ella Baker: Mentor and Fundi, focused heavily on the development of long-time activist and civil rights advocate Ella Baker. I examined her philosophy and how it helped create the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
I was a consistent staff writer for the Lorian and the UIS Observer and served as The Lorian’s opinion editor for three years. Since graduation, I have dedicated myself to The Progressive American YouTube, podcast, and newsletter. In addition to my experience at Loras, I studied Political Science at the University of Illinois Springfield, where I was a syndicated podcaster and staff contributor to the UIS Observer. In May of 2024, I graduated with a master’s degree in political science, and received an award for an outstanding comprehensive exam. It is my hope that my experience will not only be useful to my readers but also help evaluate the news as it comes along.
The Progressive American is dedicated to providing informative, persuasive, and well-rounded political commentary. Here, informative commentary research and progressive politics intersect. Through my newsletter, you can read the latest news from a progressive and critical perspective, delivered right to you.
